The 45L Green Building Incentive, also known as the New Energy Efficient Home Credit, allows eligible contractors $1,000 or $2,000 worth of tax credit for each qualifying new energy efficient home that is up to three stories above grade in height.

Qualified Energy Efficient Home

  • A dwelling must be certified to have an annual level of heating and cooling energy consumption of at least 50% below a comparable dwelling unit. The allowed credit is $2,000.
  • A manufactured home that does not meet the 50% requirement must be certified to have an annual level of heating and cooling energy consumption of at least 30% below the comparable dwelling and meet the following requirements:
    • Meets FMHCSS requirements and have building envelope component improvements that account for at least 1/3 of the 30% reduction in energy consumption.
    • Meet the current requirements under the Energy Star Labeled Homes program.

The credit allowed for this criteria is $1,000.
